PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's swimming and diving team cruised past Villanova 207-87 on Thursday evening at the Villanova Swim Complex.
"Tonight was a strong showing by our swimmers and divers," said head coach
Matt Nunnally. "When looking at our season, as a staff, we put together an opening weekend that challenges our athletes. Tonight we saw a team with character and charisma."
The 400-yard medley relay team of
Fabian Bergman,
Dimitrije Mladenovic,
Jakub Bartosiewicz, and
Sammy Odtallah began the afternoon with a first place finish, clocking a 3:25.26.
Mladenovic paced the group in the 100-yard breaststroke, taking first with a 57.89. The freshman also won the 200-yard breastsroke (2:08.10) and took third in the 200-yard IM (2:01.41).
Bergman, meanwhile, won the 200-yard IM with a 1:55.39 and placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:46.33.
Mattias Glenesk glided to a first place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a 9:40.82 while
Justin Hughes won the 100-yard backstroke (52.32).
Strahinja Stankovic paced the group in the 200-yard butterfly with a 1:58.14.
The Explorers home opener is set for tomorrow as they host Drexel at 4 p.m. in Kirk Pool.
