KINGSTON, R.I. – La Salle volleyball (6-13, 0-3 A-10) fell in straight sets, 3-0 (11-25, 28-30, 22-25)  to Rhode Island (11-5, 2-1 A-10) Friday evening. Junior
Kelly Perillo led the Explorers with eight kills on the night, and added in nine digs.

The Explorers were stymied by the Rams defense in the first set. Rhode Island tallied 21 digs in the first set alone and were able to limit La Salle to just five kills in the first frame. Rhode Island scored the final nine points of the set to seal the set win, 25-11.

La Salle was able to turn things around in set two and pushed the Rams to the limit before ultimately dropping set two, 28-30. The Explorers came out of the break strong and jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the second frame behind two kills by both sophomore
Phoebe Cook and junior
Laura Kuhlmeier. The Rams were able tie things up and the rest of the set went back-and-forth. The Explorers were able to have a set point opportunity after a Rams error made the score 27-26, however; again Rhode Island was able to regain their composure and ultimately take the set. Kuhlmeier and Cook led the team with four kills apiece in the set.

The third set again saw the Explorers push the Rams to the limit before ultimately coming up just short. Despite falling behind 1-6 early in the set, La Salle collected themselves and took a 10-9 lead. After jockeying for control of the set, the Rams were able to get hot down the stretch and take the third frame 25-22, and the match 3-0.
Bryanna Davis added six digs in the third set, while Perillo led the team with three kills.

Bryanna Davis ended the match with 11 digs, while
Michelle Healy added 22 assists in the losing effort. La Salle was helped out again by their service game, finishing with six aces, including two each by
Phoebe Cook and
Kelly Perillo.

The Explorers round out their trip to the northeast when they head to Bronx, N.Y., to face off against the Fordham Rams (0-15, 0-2 A-10) Saturday evening at 7 p.m.Â
