Men's Basketball | October 6, 2014
PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle men's basketball team begins preparations for the 2014-15 season on Monday, October 6 when it holds its first official practice. The team has been conducting individual and small group workouts since the student-athletes returned for the fall semester in late August.
The Explorers open the season on November 15 when they host Colgate at 3 PM as part of the University's Homecoming celebration. Fans can get a sneak peak at the team a week earlier when the Blue and Gold host Philadelphia University in an exhibition game on November 10 at 7 PM.
Head coach
Dr. John Giannini welcomes back one of the top front courts in the Atlantic 10 in seniors
Jerrell Wright and
Steve Zack. Wright was a second team all-Big 5 selection last season and averaged 13.3 ppg. and 6.6 rpg. He arrived back on campus in the best shape of his career and will challenge for All-Atlantic 10 recognition this season. Zack, who like Wright and many of his teammates, is in excellent shape thanks to an offseason of weight training and conditioning, led the Atlantic 10 in rebounding last year at 9.5 rpg. He became the first Explorer to earn Atlantic 10 All-Defensive honors last winter.
Wright and Zack will join fellow senior
D.J. Peterson in providing leadership to a group of as many as six players that could be playing their first games for La Salle, including transfer guards
Jordan Price (Auburn) and
Cleon Roberts (Georgia Southern) and redshirt freshman
Amar Stukes. Redshirt junior
Rohan Brown joins Wright, Zack and Peterson as the only players that appeared during the team's NCAA Sweet 16 run, and classmate
Khalid Lewis is healthy and will make his presence felt on both sides of the court.
