RICHMOND, Va.- The La Salle men's soccer team fell 3-1 to the second-seeded Saint Louis Billikens in the Atlantic 10 quarterfinal on Thursday night at Sports Backers Stadium.
The Billikens took a 1-0 lead in the 31
st minute on a strike by Kingsley Bryce. The freshman tallied his fifth goal of the season, beating La Salle keeper
Mike Kirk on the ground inside the far post.
The Explorers couldn't find the equalizer before Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year Robert Kristo netted his 12
th goal of the season in the 73
rd minute to put SLU up 2-0. Kristo added a second goal in the 80
th minute to make it a 3-0 game.
La Salle cut the lead to 3-1 in the 89
th minute on a header by
Joe Farrell following a
Greg Henry shot off the crossbar. The goal was Farrell's seventh of the season.
The Explorers came out strong in the offensive third early in the game, firing seven shots in the half. La Salle took back-to-back corner kicks over the final two minutes of the opening half, resulting in a Ciarlante header that was just off the mark and a
Matt Robinson shot that was pulled in by SLU keeper Sascha Otte.
La Salle played a man down for the final 38:57 after
Zach Rutherford was shown a red card.
The Explorers end their season 7-9-3 after making their fifth straight Atlantic 10 tournament appearance.Â
