NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Sophomore
Mattias Glenesk earned Atlantic 10 Men's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week following his performance in a meet with St. Bonaventure this past week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
The Austin, Texas native won the 1,650 yard freestyle with a time of 15:57.84, finishing more than 30 seconds ahead of SBU's Gregg Byrne. Glenesk also recorded a win in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:37.5 to help the Explorers to a 198-130 win over the Bonnies.
Glenesk has been dominant in the distance freestyle events this season. In addition to his 1,650 win against St. Bonaventure, he has also won the 1,000 yard freestyle race in meets against Drexel and Villanova, with his win against Villanova coming by over 25 seconds.
This also served as La Salle's first win over St. Bonaventure in a dual meet since November 2010, when the Explorers edged the Bonnies 168.5-165.5 on the final event.
Glenesk will return to the pool this weekend when La Salle travels to Newark, Delaware for a Tri-Meet with Delaware and Rider with things getting underway at noon on Saturday.
