PHILADELPHIA – Senior
Jennifer Whelan was named to the 2014 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Volleyball Team as announced on Wednesday afternoon. The nursing major carried a 3.96 cumulative grade point average.
Whelan was second on the team with 216 kills on the year averaging nearly 2 kills per set. She tallied the most kills of any of her four seasons on campus and produced her best hitting percentage of her career and of anyone on the team with a .257 rate on the year. Whelan also added in 24 service aces on the year which was third best on the team and helped the team finish the regular season with the third most service aces of any team in the country.
Whelan has been honored with several awards already this season earning first team academic all-district distinction and Atlantic 10 All-Academic team. She is also up for Academic All-American which will be announced tomorrow. The Warminster, Pa. native has a cumulative 3.96 GPA as a nursing major. She is the vice president of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, and a member of the Student Nurses Association of Pennsylvania.
