Game Notes

La Salle | Dayton

Last Time Out
The Explorers got off to a slow start Saturday morning, falling to Saint Joseph's, 75-64. The Hawks shot 53.6% in the first half, opening a 10-point halftime advantage from which the Explorers could never recover. Jerrell Wright posted a monster game, notching his fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 15 rebounds. With the exceptional effort, he reached the 1,000 career-point milestone.

Last Matchup Against the Flyers
The Explorers defeated the Flyers 72-70 in a fiercely competitive matchup at Tom Gola Arena last season. The game featured eight ties and 21 lead changes, but the Explorers were able to fend off a late Dayton charge to preserve the two-point victory. Ramon Galloway led four La Salle double-figure scorers with a game-high 18 points.

Scouting the Explorers
La Salle ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10 in free throw percentage (.702), fourth in offensive rebounds/game (12.5), and fifth in assist/turnover ratio (1.1).

The Explorers' ball security has been anchored by senior Tyreek Duren, who ranks fourth in the conference in assist/turnover ratio (2.0). He leads the team in scoring (14.5 ppg), assists (3.6 apg), and steals (40). His 35.9 minutes/game mark ranks second in the A-10.

La Salle has juniors Steve Zack and Jerrell Wright to thank for its muscle on the glass. Zack leads the conference in rebounds (9.7 rpg) and ranks eighth nationally with 13 double-doubles. Wright ranks third on the team in scoring (12.8 ppg) and second in rebounding (6.3 rpg). In A-10 games, Wright has averaged 3.3 offensive rebounds/game, fourth-most in the conference.

Senior Sam Mills comes in second on the team in three pointers (38) and has knocked down 42 percent of his treys in A-10 play. Mills is 45 points away from reaching 1,000 for his career. Senior Taylor Dunn scored a season-high nine points (3-5 3-PT) vs. Saint Joseph's on Saturday in 12 minutes off the bench.

Scouting the Flyers
Dayton got off to a rough start to the Atlantic 10 slate. The Flyers dropped five of their first six contests in conference play. However, the Flyers enter Wednesday night's matchup with the Explorers on a hot streak. They have won their last four contests by an average margin of 9.25 points, a stretch that includes victories over George Washington and a road victory at St. Bonaventure. Dayton enters with a 17-8 overall record and possesses a 5-5 mark in A-10 play. They are 10-4 at home this season.

The Flyers boast a strong offensive team despite the fact that they have no players that rank within the conferences Top-25 overall scorers. The team has nine players that average 4+ points per game. The Flyers rank third in the conference in scoring, averaging 75 points/game. They also lead the conference in field-goal percentage, shooting at a 47.3% clip for the season. One of the reasons for their high shooting percentage is their excellent distribution of the basketball. Six players on the Flyers roster have dished out 39+ assists on the season.

Redshirt junior guard Jordan Sibert leads the backcourt for the Flyers. He averages 12.1 points/game; ranking sixth in the conference in three-point shooting, knocking shots down at a 42.5% (54-of-127) clip from beyond the arc.

Senior forward Devin Oliver and sophomore forward Dyshawn Pierre lead the Flyers frontcourt. Oliver leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.2 points/game. He ranks 13th in the conference in rebounding, collecting 6.6 boards per contest. Pierre averages 11.7 points/game and 5.9 rebounds/game. Both players pose matchup problems because of their ability to create offense away from the basket. Oliver ranks second in the conference in three-point field goal percentage, hitting at a 43.5% (27-of-62) average from range. Pierre has made 14 three-pointers on the season, while shooting 36.8% from beyond the arc.
