Men’s Track & Field Primed for Atlantic 10 Championships

A-10 Championship Central | Schedule of Events

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's track and field team will compete in the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships on Saturday, February 22 and Sunday, February 23, at the Mackal Fieldhouse hosted by the University of Rhode Island.

"Everyone that is participating this weekend we feel has a great chance to score points," head coach Dan Ireland said. "Our goal is finish among the top three schools and if things go really well to return with a trophy," he said of his team which finished fifth at last year's championships.

Alfredo Santana was named Performer of the Meet at the indoor championships last season after taking the gold in both the 3000 and 5000 meter runs. The senior is one of only two runners in A-10 history to earn Performer of the Meet honors in cross country (2012), indoor track (2013) and outdoor track (2013). Santana enters the meet ranked second in the conference in the 3k (8:14.12) and 5k (14:21.62).

Ireland will look to a trio of milers to score big points for his squad – junior Nick Ross, senior Zach Sullivan, and junior Vince Perozze. Ross (4:05.31), Sullivan (4:08.43), and Perozze (4:08.74) are ranked second through fourth in the A-10 in the event.

Freshman Chris Sanders has burst onto the scene in his rookie campaign and enters the conference meet ranked first in the A-10 in the 800 meter dash (1:52.63). Sanders runs the opening leg of the 4x800m relay team which Ireland expects to pick up points this weekend.

The distance medley relay team (Robertson, Hunter, Sanders, Santana) is seeded third in the conference entering the weekend after posting a 9:59.57 on February 8 at the Yale Giegengack Invitational.
