DURHAM, N.C. – Duke jumped out to a 5-0 lead through two innings and cruised to a 6-1 victory over the La Salle baseball team on Friday afternoon at Jack Coombs Field. The Blue Devils outhit the Explorers 12-8 on the day.
Duke's bats made quick work of La Salle starter
Alex Faust (0-1), who was charged with five earned runs in 3.2 innings of work. Chris Marconcini smacked a two-run homer in the bottom of the first before the home team piled on three more runs in the second to open up a 5-0 lead.
Trent Swart (2-0) kept the Explorer offense at bay all afternoon. He gave up one earned in seven innings, striking out 11 and walking none.
La Salle (0-4) got on the board in the third inning when
Justin Korenblatt (1-3, RBI, BB) singled home
George Smith Jr (1-3, R), who singled his way on earlier in the frame.
The Blue Devils added a run in the sixth inning against an Explorer bullpen that combined for 4.1 innings of one-run ball.
Mike McLeod highlighted the effort with two scoreless innings of work.
La Salle will play two against Akron tomorrow. The first game will start at 1:00 PM at Jack Coombs Field. The night cap will begin at 6:00 PM in Wilson, N.C.
