Roth Breaks School Record in 100-Yard Breaststroke on Friday at A-10 Championships

GENEVA, Ohio – Johan Roth swam a 55.31 in the 100-yard breaststroke final on Friday evening at the Atlantic 10 Championships, re-breaking the school record he set earlier in the day (55.81). Eric Buhain's time of 55.84 had stood since 1991.

Roth placed fourth in the event which was good enough for the NCAA "B Cut." He tallied 15 team points in the process. Jerry Gravel registered a 56.67 in the event, finishing 12th (five team points).

In the 400-yard medley relay, Dave Derr, Roth, Cameron Fadley, and Jonathan Cabral timed a 3:19.80, earning fifth place and 28 team points. The time is good for a new school record, breaking the 24-year old mark of 3:21.58 by nearly two full seconds. 

Derr notched the top La Salle time in the 100-yard backstroke with a 49.62, good for sixth. Justin Hughes (51.27) and Marcus Cloutier (51.71) finished 13th and 14th, respectively. The trio totaled 20 team points with their performances.

Kip Gravel placed eighth in the 400-yard individual medley finals, touching the wall at 4:06.12 and earning the Explorers 11 team points. Fadley swam a 49.48 en route to an 11th place finish and six team points.

In the 200-yard freestyle final, Stefan Sharpe (1:39.69) and Sean McCall (1:41.24) came in 10th and 15th, respectively. The duo combined for nine team points in the effort.

Fadley earned six team points with a 49.98 in the 100-yard butterfly, coming in 11th in his consolation final swim. 

CJ Gimpel tallied a 15-point performance on the 3-meter diving board, scoring a 242.50. The score was good for fourth in the event.

The Explorers sit in fourth place with 281 team points heading into Saturday. St. Bonaventure (516), Massachusetts (432), and George Mason (408) sit 1-3. 

The conference championships resume Saturday morning at 10:30 AM.
