Men’s Track & Field Concludes Successful Weekend at Yale, Boston

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The La Salle men's track and field team competed this weekend at the Yale Giegengack Invitational (Fri & Sat) and David Hemery Valentine Invitational (Sat). The Explorers impressed in a number of events, highlighted by strong performances in the 5000 meters and DMR.

Four Explorers placed in the top-30 (84-runner field) in the 5000 meter run at BU on Saturday afternoon, highlighted by a 10th place finish by Alfredo Santana (14:21.62). The time is the best of any Atlantic 10 runner this season. Demitri Goutos (14:36.89), Ian Barnhill (14:40.21), and Nico Greco (14:41.58) came in 22nd, 26th, and 30th, respectively, filling out the top-four conference times of the year.

The rest of the squad competed at Yale, highlighted by a first place finish in the DMR on Friday evening. Brendan Robertson, Cris Hunter, Chris Sanders, and Santana combined for a 9:59.57. The time marked the best A-10 time of the winter.

Nick Ross stole the show in the mile, crossing the finish line at 4:05.31, good for the top time.

Kevin Day (2:29.44) and John Pujols (2:30.58) finished first and second, respectively in the 1000 meter run.

Hunter ran a 1:05.75 in the 500 meter run, placing third (19-runner field).

Sanders came in third (26-runner field) in the 800 meter run, registering a 1:54.89.

Joshua Byrd clocked the top Explorer time in the 200 meter dash, coming in at 23.01. He placed eighth in a 25-runner field.

The 4x400 meter relay team (Hunter, Avery-Brooks, Grosso, Byrd) placed third, posting a 3:22.94.

The Explorers will compete at the Lafayette-Rider Winter Games next weekend.
