BRONX, N.Y. – La Salle senior guard Tyreek Duren hit a buzzer-beating lay-up off an inbounds play to give the Explorers a 64-62 win at Fordham on Saturday evening. Duren had 10 points for the game, while La Salle was led by Sam Mills' 18 and junior Jerrell Wright's 14.

"It was a great college basketball game," head coach Dr. John Giannini said. "It is nice to be on the other side of these types of games."

The game-winner capped a wild final possession. Fordham had tied the score at 62 on a Bryan Smith jumper with 35 seconds to go. La Salle held for the final shot and senior Tyrone Garland's jumper was blocked out of bounds as the buzzer sounded. But the officials went to the monitor and placed 0.7 seconds on the clock.

Giannini drew up an in bounds play with junior D.J. Peterson set to make the pass. Duren, starting on the near block, faked toward the foul line to set a screen and cut to the basket, where Peterson hit him with a pass. Duren, flailing away from the basket, shot a reverse lay-up that went in as the buzzer sounded to give La Salle the victory.

"I told DJ to throw the ball before I even turned around," Duren said.

It was yet another great moment in the fine career of the La Salle playmaker. The Philadelphia product has hit countless big shots in his career, including a buzzer-beater at Northeastern last year and game-tying and go-ahead shots in a win over Villanova earlier in 2012.

The Explorers (14-14, 6-8 A-10) led by as many as 15 in the first half after jumping on the Rams from the tip. La Salle led 9-0 and 21-6 as Mills shot his was to an early nine points. But Fordham rallied back and a three-pointer at the halftime buzzer made it 30-27, Explorers at intermission.

The advantage stretched to 10 early in the second half but Fordham wasn't about to go away. The game quickly became a one and two possession contest down the stretch but the Blue and Gold never gave the lead away, leading for all 40 minutes. The tie game with 35 seconds to go was as close as Fordham got to taking the lead.

"I've often said if these kids can take the lessons they learn in terms of persistence and having poise they can be so successful in life," Giannini said. "They are developing tremendous life skills."

Branden Frazier had 23 points to lead Fordham (9-18, 2-12 A-10). Jon Severe added 10.

La Salle returns home on Thursday to host George Mason at 8 PM on NBC Sports Network. The Senior Day ceremony recognizing Taylor Dunn, Duren, Garland and Mills will begin at approximately 7:45 PM.

"All we talk about is how we can win out and go into the A-10 Tournament on a hot streak," Duren said.
