Korenblatt Powers La Salle In Saturday Split at USC-Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Justin Korenblatt went 7-for-9 on Saturday as the La Salle baseball team split a pair of games at South Carolina-Upstate. The home team won the opener, 11-9, but the Explorers responded with a 12-5 victory in the nightcap.

GAME ONE
The Explorers built a 6-4 lead through the first five innings before the Spartans exploded for six runs in in the bottom of the sixth. Freddy Andujar (L, 0-5) relieved starter Joey Ravert (5.0 IP, 2 ER) but lasted only one-third of an inning behind three earned runs. Brian Maher gave up three more in the frame to give Upstate a 10-6 lead.

La Salle added two runs in the seventh and one more in the ninth but the home team hung on for an 11-9 victory. The Explorers outhit the Spartans, 15-12, behind five multiple hit efforts. Korenblatt went 4-for-5 with two runs and an RBI while Kevin Baron knocked in three runs on two hits.

Tom Fazzini and Andrew Craig each tossed scoreless innings in relief for the Explorers. Upstate's David Roseboom (W, 1-2) earned the win, giving up six earned runs through six innings.

GAME TWO
La Salle scored two runs in the first and six in the second to open up an 8-5 lead. Starter Shane Hollman (W, 1-1) worked the first four innings, giving up five runs but only one of them earned. Adam Cherry quietly picked up a three-inning save, striking out three and coughing up a single hit.

The Explorers put the game away with a four-run sixth inning. The teams agreed that the nightcap of the doubleheader would be only seven innings.

Korenblatt stroked three hits and tallied a career-high five RBI to pace the La Salle sticks once again. He bopped his first homer of the season in the second inning. Josh Savakinus, Cameron Johnson, and Ravert each notched two hits as the Explorers tallied 15 team hits. 

Upstate's Zac Mannuppelli took the loss. He gave up four runs in 1.1 innings.
