Box Score (PDF)PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle baseball team was defeated, 10-3, by Saint Joseph's on Tuesday evening at Citizens Bank Park in the Liberty Bell Classic championship game. The Hawks jumped to a 5-0 advantage in the first inning and cruised to the victory in a game that featured a one hour, five minute rain delay.
Saint Joseph's (22-10) picked up all five first inning runs off La Salle starter
Alex Faust (L, 0-3), who retired just one before the heavens opened with precipitation. The Hawks added a pair in the fifth off
Freddy Andujar and three more in the eighth to provide all the cushion they would need.
The Explorers (11-25) got on the board in the fifth inning on a bizarre sequence that plated
Derek Prucnal (1-4, R) from third. Prucnal smoked a double to lead off the frame before advancing to third on a wild pitch.
Nick Tierno (1-4) then hit a shallow fly ball to the left fielder, whose relay was mishandled by shortstop Spencer Judge. Prucnal scampered home to cut the deficit to 5-1.
The Blue & Gold added a pair of runs in the sixth with RBI doubles off the bat of
Josh Savakinus (1-4, RBI, R) and
Joey Ravert (1-3, RBI, BB).
Braedon Lawson (2-2) earned the win for the Hawks, tossing 3.1 innings in relief.
The clubs will play three times this weekend beginning on Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Hank DeVincent Field.
