Box Score (PDF)RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond tallied six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to create separation in an 8-4 win over the La Salle baseball team on Saturday afternoon at Pitt Field.
George Smith Jr pounded out a career-high four hits in the loss for the Blue & Gold.
The Explorers (7-19, 3-3 A-10) scored a run in the first and second inning and held a 2-1 lead through the fifth inning. Richmond chased La Salle starter
Joey Ravert out of the game in the bottom of the sixth and tied the game up at two apiece. Ravert gave up two runs (one earned) in 5.1 innings while striking out three and walking three.
The Spiders (14-13-1, 5-3 A-10) exploded for six runs in the seventh inning off four Explorer pitchers to open an 8-2 lead and put the game away.
Kevin Baron and
Justin Korenblatt both notched two-hit days as the Explorers tallied 11 on the game, against Richmond's 12.
Greg Krug (0-1) took the loss and James Lively earned the win (2-1).
The series rubber match will take place on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
