Schedule of EventsPHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's track and field team will take its talents to Amherst, Massachusetts this weekend for the Atlantic 10 Championships. The squad enters the weekend coming off a number of strong performances at the Penn Relays a week ago, highlighted by a 4xMile school record on Saturday (16:33.50).
Alfredo Santana will lead the charge and look to become the first A-10 runner in history to earn five Most Outstanding Performer distinctions at the conference championships. He will double in the 5k and 10k and look to sweep both races as he did a year ago. He clocked a PR (29:50.67) in the 10k at the Bison Outdoor Classic on April 12 and posted his best 5k time of the spring on April 4 at the Stanford Invitational (14:21.93).
Nico Greco and
Demetri Goutos will join Santana in the 10k. Goutos registered a 29:54.70 in the 10k at the Stanford Invitational, good for the third-best time in the A-10 this spring behind Duquesne's Jim Spisak (29:02.09) and Santana. Greco notched a season-best time in the 10k at Bucknell on April 12, timing a 30:21.63. The mark is the fifth-fastest in the conference this season. Greco earned silver in the 5k at the indoor championship in February (14:48.54).
Vince Perozze will compete in the 5k and look to medal in consecutive A-10 Championships, as he took home silver in the 3k in February. Perozze ran the fifth-best time in the A-10 this spring with a 14:24.38 (PR) at the Stanford Invitational.
Freshman
Chris Sanders continues to turn heads in the 800 meter run, most recently splitting a 1:48.3 in the 800m leg of the DMR on Friday at the Penn Relays. Sanders, who has been named A-10 Rookie of the Week four times this outdoor season, placed third in the event at the indoor championships in February (1:54.19). His time of 1:50.66 at the Larry Ellis Invitational on April 16 is the top mark in the A-10 this spring.
Nick Ross and
Vince Perozze will compete in the 1500 meter run and formed half the duo that slayed La Salle's 4xMile school record on Saturday at the Penn Relays. Ross clocked a season-best 3:47.64 at the George Mason Spring Invite (4/12). Sullivan's top time of the spring came on April 18 at the Larry Ellis Invitational (3:52.89).
Head coach Dan Ireland expects his mean's team to be among the top-five finishers at the championships, coming off a fourth place showing at the indoor championships in February.
