Box Score (PDF)DAYTON, Oh. – Josh Savakinus blasted two home runs but the La Salle baseball team couldn't overcome a late Dayton surge in a 9-7 loss on Sunday afternoon at Woerner Field. The Flyers improve to 12-26, 13-11 A-10 while the Explorers dip to 13-32, 8-14 A-10.
Savakinus hit a solo homer in the sixth and blasted a two-run shot in the eighth, his third and fourth of the season. He touched home four times which set a new career high. His round tripper in the eighth put the Explorers up, 7-6.
The Flyers wasted no time retaking the lead, posting a three-spot in the bottom of the inning off
Adam Cherry, who suffered his third loss of the year. Cherry entered the game with an unblemished ERA in conference play.
Justin Korenblatt (3-5, RBI ,R) and
Joey Ravert (2-4, RBI) had big days at the plate for the Explorers. Korenblatt hit a jimmy jack in the eighth, his third of the year and improved his batting average to .366, the top mark on the squad. Both clubs tallied 11 knocks on the day.
Shawn O'Neill made the start for the Blue & Gold, going six innings while giving up three earned runs. He struck out four and walked one while scattering six hits. Dayton's Joe Wahl was chased after four, being charged with three earned. Nick Weybright picked up his second win of the season while Noah Buettgen worked the three out save.
La Salle returns to 20
th & Olney for four games this week. They will host Rider on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. and prepare for a three game A-10 series vs. Saint Louis beginning on Thursday.
