Live ResultsJACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Four members of the La Salle men's track and field team will compete this week at the NCAA Preliminary Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by the University of North Florida. The quartet is riding a wave of momentum, coming off strong showings at the A-10 Championships, the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet, and the IC4A Championships in recent weeks.
Alfredo Santana is the lone Explorer to qualify in two events – the 1500 meter run and 5000 meter run. The senior clocked a 3:43.21 in the 1500 at Swarthmore on May 12, good for a PR and the second-fastest mark in program history. He enters the weekend ranked 16
th in the region in the event. Santana showed off his versatility with the top 5k time at the IC4A Championships a week later, running a season-best 14:16.42 to qualify for regionals.
Nick Ross and
Zach Sullivan will join Santana in the 1500, as both posted qualifying times at Swarthmore. Ross ran a career-best 3:44.24 in the event, the 25
th-fastest time in the East Region this spring. The junior took silver in the 1500 at the A-10 Outdoor Championships with a 3:52.89. Sullivan ran a 3:46.00 at Swarthmore, besting his PR by more than five seconds. The Pasadena, Md. native enters the weekend ranked 61
st in the region.
Chris Sanders has enjoyed an absurdly successful rookie campaign and is the first Explorer freshman in history to punch his ticket to the NCAA Preliminary Championships in the 800 meter run. His mark of 1:48.69 (PR) at Swarthmore is tied for the fourth-fastest among all freshmen nationally. A week prior, Sanders won 800 meter gold at the A-10 Championships (1:51.61) and anchored the gold medal-winning 4x800 meter relay team. He was named Most Outstanding Rookie Performer for his efforts.
