View Complete ResultsAMHERST, Mass. – Alfredo Santana paced a group of three Explorers in the 10,000 meter run on Saturday morning at the Atlantic 10 Championships with a second place time of 30:01.87.
Demetri Goutos (30:08.51) and
Nico Greco (30:59.80) both scored in the event, coming in fourth and eight, respectively.
Santana, who won the 10k at last year's outdoor championships, finished only behind Jim Spisak of Duquesne, who set a conference championship record with a 29:33.29. Santana dusted Duquesne's Chuck Lockwood (30:03.12) the final 200 meters with an impressive kick to secure the runner-up finish.
Michael Santeramo found the medal stand in the javelin after launching the spear 55.28m. The mark was good for third behind URI's Nick Danner (67.52m) and Duquesne's Alex Gladysiewski (61.73m).
Jimmy Murphy placed fifth in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a personal-best 9:14.20. The mark was more than 16 seconds faster than his top time coming in.
David Ozarowski came in 12
th with a 9:34.39 and
Ben Pershall did not finish after getting tripped up on a hurdle early in the race.
Chris Sanders won his heat in the 800 meter preliminary with a 1:51.71, thanks to a late burst. He will compete in the event final on Sunday afternoon.
Chris Trimble picked up a PR with a 1:53.78, finishing 13
th overall (22-runner field).
A pair of Explorers,
Joshua Byrd and
Cris Hunter, ran the 400 meter dash and came in 13
th and 15
th, respectively (22-runner field). Byrd timed a 49.49 (PR) while Hunter crossed the line at 50.13.
Francis Mancho registered a PR in the 100 meter dash, clocking an 11.13. The time was good for 12
th in the 17-runner field.
Avery Hunter-Brooks pushed aside his PR in the 200 meter dash, posting a 22.39. He finished 12
th in the 18-runner field.
Through one day of competition, La Salle sits in fifth with 24 team points. Rhode Island (77.5), Duquesne (51), and George Mason (33) lead the way.
The Explorers get things going on Sunday at 10:40 a.m. in the 4x100 meter relay.
