Box Score (PDF)BRONX, N.Y. – The La Salle baseball team edged Fordham, 10-9, on Sunday afternoon at Houlihan Field in a game that featured 26 hits and eight errors.
Josh Savakinus (2-5, RBI, R) smacked a go-ahead, RBI double in the top of the ninth and
Adam Cherry (W, 1-2) shut the door in the bottom of the frame.
Justin Korenblatt (4-4, 3 RBI, 3 R) and
Cameron Johnson (3-5, 3 RBI, 2 R) supplied much of the offense for the Explorers (12-30, 7-12 A-10), each bopping homers on a day when pitching and defense took a step aside.
Shawn O'Neill made the start for the Blue & Gold and threw five innings, giving up seven runs (three earned) while striking out three and walking one.
Mike McLeod retired two batters before handing the ball to Cherry, who posted 3.1 scoreless frames.
Fordham led 9-8 after six innings, but the Explorers scored a run in the seventh and added the go-ahead in the ninth. Both clubs banged out 13 hits on the afternoon.
J.C. Porter (3-5) took the loss for the Rams (21-24, 11-10 A-10) and was charged with both late Explorer runs.
La Salle returns to the diamond next weekend for a three game A-10 set at Dayton.
