Bill Raftery Named To Middle Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame

PHILADELPHIA
- La Salle basketball letterwinner and nationally renowned college basketball broadcast Bill Raftery has been named to the Middle Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame, the league announced on Tuesday.

Raftery played for the Explorers from 1960-63 while the team was in the MAC. He led the team in scoring at 17.8 ppg. as a sophomore and as a senior in 1963, co-captained the team to an NIT berth.

He later coached at FDU-Florham, another MAC school, becoming the third winningest coach in program history.He went on to coach at Seton Hall from from 1970 to 1982, compiling a 156-140 record.

In 1983, Raftery joined CBS Sports as a basketball analyst and has covered over 25 years of New Jersey Nets and college basketball games including Nets playoff wins, Big East basketball thrillers and, NCAA basketball for ESPN and CBS television and radio. In 2013, Raftery moved from ESPN to commentating for Fox Sports 1.

He joins La Salle standouts Tom Gola, Al Cantello and Ira Davis in the MAC Hall of Fame. Raftery, who remains close to the program as part of he annual Friends of Bill Raftery Golf Outing and Open Practice, is also a member of La Salle's Hall of Athletes.
