Women's Rowing Set For Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta

Course Map | Heat Sheets/Race Schedule | DadVail.org

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle women's rowing team will look to finish the 2014 spring season with a splash as the Explorers once again compete in the historic Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River beginning Friday morning.

The women's squad will be racing three boats this weekend, including the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four.

The V4 kickstarts the Explorers' schedule at 8:18 a.m. on Friday. The squad will face Army, Temple, Drexel, Saint Joseph's and Binghamton, and will be racing in Lane 4. The top three boats in the race will advance to semifinals. Lineups for all three boats remain the same as they were at the Atlantic 10 Championship last week, with the V4 coxed by Katie Reyes, and rowed by Meredith LaPan, Savannah Fader, Erika Gonzalez and Maria Urban.

"The women's varsity four is finishing off a year where there's been a lot of growth and a lot of learning, and they're putting together good races," Head Coach Tom Madden said. "We're looking for consistency from them as well."

The V8 is up next at 11:03 a.m. and will be positioned in Lane 5. The Explorers will face Fairfield, Cleveland, Duquesne and Jacksonville, in a race where four of the five boats will advance. The top two finishers will move on to the semifinals and the 3-4 boats will go to reps. The V8 will be coxed by Maura Green, and rowed by Karli Libbey, Gianna Harris-Campbell, Catherine Goldschmidt, Bernadette Stanko, Amanda Schwarz, Kirsten Kershbaumer, Amanda Ryan and Sofia Iaconelli.

"The women's varsity eight is starting to show a lot of their potential that we were hoping they would," Madden said. "There's a lot of good racing and a lot of aggressiveness coming out of that boat, so we're really looking for a strong heat from them on Friday."

The 2V8 will race at 4:56 p.m. in Lane 5. The Explorers will row against Connecticut, Jacksonville, Grand Valley, Massachusetts and Colgate. The top two finishers will advance to the semifinals. The 2V8 lineup includes coxswain Sarah Kanefsky, and rowers Tayler Horne, Madeline Haaga, Emily Loughlin, Katherine Van Stone, Brooke Spence, Maura McKenna and Emma Merrick.

"The women's 2V has a lot of good senior leadership in that boat, really coming together and they showed some really good improvement at the A-10's," Madden added. "We're looking to make that a little more consistent through the racing at the Dad Vail."
