Box Score | Box Score (PDF)

DAYTON, Oh. – Joey Ravert broke a 5-5 tie with a bases-clearing, three-RBI triple in the top of the ninth inning and Shawn O'Neill shut the door in bottom of the frame as the La Salle baseball team defeated Dayton, 8-5, on Friday afternoon at Woerner Field. The Explorers tallied 13 hits on the day and used five multiple hit efforts in the victory.

The Explorers (13-30, 8-12 A-10) entered the ninth down 5-4 and made two quick outs before staging the comeback. Justin Korenblatt (2-4, RBI, 2 R), Mark Williams (3-5, RBI), and Cameron Johnson (3-5, 2 RBI, R) cracked back-to-back-to-back two-out singles, the last of which plated the tying run. After Josh Savakinus (0-4, R) was hit by a pitch, Ravert (2-5, 4 RBI, R) clobbered a bases-clearing triple to put the Blue & Gold up 8-5, which proved to be the final score.

Ravert blasted his third homer of the season in the second inning, a solo shot that put the Explorers up 3-1 at the time. The Blue & Gold added another in the seventh before posting the four-spot in the ninth.

Shane Hollman made the start on the hill for La Salle and threw four innings of one-run ball. Head coach Mike Lake then called on four Explorers to make 15 outs. Greg Krug earned his first career victory by throwing a scoreless eighth while O'Neill picked up his fifth save of the year.

Noah Buettgen, the A-10's leading innings eater, went all nine for the Flyers and suffered his sixth loss of the season. He struck out 12 and walked one while scattering 13 hits. All eight runs the Blue & Gold pushed across were earned.

Dayton (20-26, 11-11 A-10) and La Salle will go at it again on Saturday with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m.
