PHILADELPHIA - La Salle graduate student
Demetri Goutos and Utah graduate
Lucy Yates have been added to the cross country/track & field staff as graduate assistants, Head Coach Dan Ireland announced.
"While we are very sad to see Tina Muir, our GA for the past two years, leave La Salle, we are very excited to welcome two new individuals to the staff this fall," Ireland said. "These two people will bring a wealth of knowledge to the program and will help us continue to improve upon the student-athlete experience at La Salle. We are excited to have two GA's this year and I am really looking forward to what each has to offer to our program."
Goutos, who will enter his second year in La Salle's MBA program, remains with the Explorer program after running for Ireland's squad last season. The distance runner made a mark in his one year with the Explorers, earning Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference recognition during the outdoor season. He finished fourth in the 10,000 meter run at the A-10 outdoor championship, and had finished fifth in the indoor 3,000 meters at the conference championship in February. The Saratoga Springs, N.Y., native joined the Explorer squad last season after completing his undergraduate degree at Yale while running four years for the Bulldogs.
Yates has traveled a long way to 20th and Olney, as the St. Albans, England, native recently graduated from the University of Utah. Yates came to the USA in 2008 and competed for the Utes for five years. While at Utah, the middle distance runner broke the school 800 meter record in 2010 while also qualifying for the NCAA Championship Final Round that season. During that successful 2010 year, she also earned the U-23 British championship title in the 800. She also medaled several times at the Mountain West Conference Championships and qualified for the NCAA West Regionals on multiple occasions. Yates graduated with a degree in Mass Communications and Psychology, and will be pursuing her Masters in Professional and Business Communication at La Salle.
