PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's soccer team looks to continue their winning ways this week as they visit Villanova on Wednesday and host LIU Brooklyn at McCarthy Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Scouting the ExplorersThe Explorers are coming off three wins in a calendar week, including back-to-back shutouts, as they enter their final week of nonconference action.
After a 3-2 shootout win over Stetson on Sunday, the Explorers enjoyed 1-0 victories over Bucknell on Tuesday and Manhattan on Friday.
Mike Kirk was in the net for all three wins, including Friday's overtime defeat of the Jaspers, and earned Philadelphia Soccer Six Defender of the Week for his efforts.
Midfielder
Joe Farrell earned Soccer Six Player of the Week after having a hand in both of La Salle's goals last week. The junior scored the game-winner in the 48th minute of Tuesday's victory over Bucknell, chipping it past the goalkeeper inside the near post on an assist from
Tom Baker. Against Manhattan, Farrell gathered a corner kick from
Mike Liska and found teammate
Colman Kennedy for the game-winner in the 97th minute.

Scouting the WildcatsVillanova is coming off a 1-0 loss to No. 12 Creighton at home on Saturday, but are 3-0-1 in their last five contests. Senior midfielder Oscar Umar, who has started all eight games for the Wildcats this year, received a red card in the second half of Saturday's match and will not be in uniform on Wednesday.
A share of the Soccer Six crown could possibly be at stake for the Explorers on Wednesday afternoon. Should the Explorers win their fourth straight game, they could earn a piece of the Soccer Six title if Saint Joseph's ties or defeats Penn on Tuesday night.

Scouting the BlackbirdsSenior forward Brice Merwine is tied for fifth in the nation with seven total goals scored this season and is tied for sixth with 0.88 goals per game. No other teammate has hit pay dirt more than once though, and the Blackbirds are allowing a goals against average of 2.82.
The Explorers and Blackbirds played last September, drawing 0-0 after two overtime periods at LIU Field. The two teams last met at McCarthy Stadium in 2012, with the Blue and Gold earning a 2-1 victory.
