Volleyball Stymied by Colonials


PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle women's volleyball team fell, 3-0 (18-25, 15-25, 15-25), to George Washington on Friday night at Tom Gola Arena. Freshman Madison Kuch finished with a team-high eight kills on the evening.
 
George Washington (14-7, 4-2 A-10)was able to separate itself early in set one and ultimately took the frame 25-18. Despite a set-high five kills from sophomore Hanna McGary on just eight swings, the Explorers offense couldn't keep pace with the Colonials. McGary ended the set with a .375 hitting percentage.
 
Set two saw the Explorers keep things close early in the set before the Colonials pulled away midway through the set. George Washington went on an 8-2 run after the score had been tied at 7-7 to jump out to a 15-9 lead from which they never looked back on their way to a 25-15 win. The Colonials hit an impressive .500 in the frame. Senior Kelly Perillo converted two of three swings in the set for a .667 hitting percentage while Kuch added four kills on just seven swings to hit .429 in the frame.
 
The Colonials were able to complete the sweep in set three with a 25-15 set win. George Washington used a 13-4 run to jump out to a 19-9 lead on their way to the win. McGary provided two kills in the set for the Explores. La Salle (6-16, 0-6 A-10) was able to hold the visitors to just a .143 hitting percentage in the frame but they were able to utilize four blocks to stifle the Explorers offense as well.
 
Freshman Jensen Sharrits finished the night with a set-high eight digs while classmate Taylor Hite tied for a set-high 23 assists. Perillo lead all hitters with a .571 hitting percentage converting four of seven swings on the evening.
 
La Salle returns to action on Sunday as they welcome the George Mason Patriots to Tom Gola for a 1 p.m. first serve.
