Explorers Win Third Straight With 3-0 Win Over Towson

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle field hockey team won its third straight game, and fifth in its last six tries, with a 3-0 victory over Towson on Sunday at Hank DeVincent Field. Sophomores Kendall Kreider and Katie O'Grady, along with junior Abbey Lawrence, all scored goals while goalkeeper Rachel Hartman made five stops in the victory.

The Explorers controlled play throughout, holding a 26-9 advantage on shots and a 14-2 lead on corners, but were unable to score in the first half as the teams went into intermission with the game tied at 0-0.

But 40 seconds into the second half, Kreider collected a rebound after Lawrence's shot was saved and deposited the ball into the cage for her third goal of the weekend. In the 51st minute, O'Grady was awarded a penalty stroke after Towson committed a foul and the sophomore did not disappoint, sending the ball into the upper corner for her second goal of the season.

Towson (2-12) applied more pressure late but and had a penalty stroke with just under 10 minutes left after a La Salle yellow card. But Hartman came up big with the save and kept the game at 2-0.

Lawrence added an insurance goal in the 68th minute after collecting a rebound from senior Jenica Miller's shot.

Towson keeper Emilee Woodall made 14 saves for the Tigers.

With the victory, La Salle (7-7) continued its excellence at home with a 5-1 record and wins in 11 of its last 13 games at "the Hank."

The Explorers will head on the road for the last time during the regular season next weekend with an important visit to UMass on Friday. The Blue and Gold remain in New England on Sunday for a contest versus Bryant.
