PHILADELPHIA-
Sophomore Emma Smith won a pair of events, however, it wasn't enough as the La Salle women's swimming and diving team fell 101.5-198.5 to Drexel.

The sophomore from Nepean, Ontario kicked off the meet with a commanding win in the 1000-yard freestyle race. She swam a time of 10:26.32 to take first place by 13.15 seconds over the nearest competitor. Smith returned later to win the 500-yard freestyle thanks to a time of 5:05.98 which was 4.08 seconds faster than the second place finisher.

"Philadelphia is a great city for swimming and diving," said head coach Jamie Platt. "This week is quite evident of that. To have quality teams just minutes away is awesome for our team. Drexel is a formidable opponent and our women came up short, but had many bright spots. We continue to be in a good place and our growth and fun is a great reward."

Freshman Olivia DiStefano bested a six women field in the 100-yard backstroke. She swam a time of 58.04 to best the field by 2.16 seconds.

Freshman Eva Marie Osterhaus finished in second place of the 200-yard butterfly race. She swam a time of 2:09.90 which was just 1.79 seconds off of the lead. Osterhaus held the lead after the first 100 yards of the race but couldn't hold on.

DiStefano and junior Kaitlyn Hay took home second and third place respectively in the 50-yard freestyle race. DiStefano swam a 24.73 while Hay was close behind with a 24.85 time which tied for third place.

Senior Kelly Quinn and sophomore Sydney Szopo placed second and third in the 3 meter diving event. Quinn scored a 239.48 while Szopo was close behind with a score of 232.73. Szopo was able to place second in the one meter event with a score of 241.65 just 6.7 points off of the winning score.

Hay placed second in the 100-yard freestyle race. She used a time of 53.64 seconds to place second, missing out on the top spot by a mere .2 seconds.

Sophomores Hannah Elliott and Natalie Simunek finished second and third in the 200-yard backstroke. Elliott swam a time of 2:12.88 while Simunek was close behind in 2:14.10.

The Explorers return to action on Saturday October 31 as they travel to Geneva, Ohio and the Spire Institute to take on Duquesne, St. Bonaventure, and Saint Louis.
