PHILADELPHIA – After tying the game at 1-1 early in the second half, the La Salle men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to the Rhode Island Rams in overtime at McCarthy Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Rhode Island's Mike Casey punched in the game-winning goal during a skirmish in front of the net in the 91st minute. Carlo Davids and Wesley Matthews picked up the assists on Casey's second goal of the year.
The Explorers trailed 1-0 at the break before La Salle's
Joe Farrell tallied the equalizer just minutes in the second half.
Tony Daniele sent a low cross into the box, which Farrell redirected inside the far post for his second goal of the year in the 49th minute. Daniele picked up his third assist of the season on the play.
The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute when Liam Daley buried the rebound of a shot by Emil Jesman Sunde. The Rams outshot La Salle 10-7 in the game.
The two teams racked up a total of 34 fouls and eight yellow cards.
The Explorers conclude their regular season next Saturday as they host Saint Joseph's at 1 PM for Senior Day.
