PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The La Salle field hockey team was less than two minutes away from keeping its postseason hopes alive, as it held a 2-1 lead over Saint Francis with the clock ticking down. But the visiting Red Flash crushed those hopes with a game-tying goal in the 69th minute and scored the game-winner six minutes into overtime to beat the Explorers, 3-2, on Friday afternoon at DeVincent Field.
Senior
Jenica Miller continued her outstanding final campaign with a reverse chip goal into the upper 90 in the 55th minute that broke a 1-1 tie. Junior
Abbey Lawrence earned the assist. For Miller, it was her third goal of the season and team-best 14th point.
The Explorers held the slim 2-1 lead heading into the closing minutes. Saint Francis continued to apply pressure but the La Salle defense wouldn't break. After the second of two penalty corners, Brea Seabrook took a pass from Selena Adamshick and found the back of the cage to tie the game.
SFU had four shots and two corners in the extra period before Adamshick dribbled into the circle after a corner and delivered the game-winner.
Junior
Devin Muracco scored La Salle's first goal in the 28th minute off a pass from sophomore
Jess Hoffman.
Junior
Rachel Hartman was brilliant in net, stopping a season-high 13 shots, including four in overtime. Her career high is 14 saves.
Saint Francis' Samantha Zeiders made four saves for the victory.
