PHILADELPHIA –The La Salle men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker to Duquesne on Wednesday night at McCarthy Stadium, falling 3-2 in double overtime on a goal in the 108
th minute.
Duquesne's Alex Healion netted the game winner at the 107:04 mark in the second overtime, bending a ball from the baseline on the near side over goalkeeper
Mike Kirk for the win. Colin Phillips, who also scored two goals for the Dukes, tallied an assist on the play.
La Salle had taken an early lead in the 23rd minute on
Andrew Connors' third goal of the season.
Joe Farrell played a ball from the middle of the field to a streaking Connors on the near sideline, who then launched the ball inside the far post.
Phillips scored twice following the break, in the 55th minute and again in the 67th minute, to give the Dukes a 2-1 lead. Connors tied the game at 2-2 in the 75th minute, collecting the ball in a scrum in the box following a throw-in and punching in the equalizer.
The Dukes were called for five offside penalties in the game, including one that wiped away a goal minutes before halftime that helped La Salle carry a 1-0 advantage into the break.
La Salle is back in action on Saturday night as they visit St. Bonaventure at 7 PM at Marra Athletics Fields Complex.
