WASHINGTON, D.C. – The La Salle women's soccer team fell to George Washington 2-1 in overtime on Thursday afternoon at the GW Soccer Field as the Colonials scored the game-winner in the 98
th minute.
Sofia Pavon converted a penalty kick at the 97:02 mark in overtime to complete the comeback win for the Colonials. La Salle had earned a corner kick in the 95
th minute but neither team registered a shot in extra time prior to the penalty kick.
Deja Davis gave the Explorers a 1-0 lead in the 50
th minute, collecting the rebound of a
Kristin Haugstad corner kick and punching the ball past GW keeper Miranda Horn. The goal was Davis' second of the season.
George Washington's Lina Proska tallied the equalizer in the 58
th minute, fielding a Nicole Belfonti pass from the left wing at the top of the box and firing it into the lower right corner of the net.
The Colonials outshot La Salle 8-4 in the game although the Explorers controlled corner kicks 5-3 on the afternoon. Horn and La Salle keeper
Katie Getzinger both recorded two saves in the match.
The Explorers are back in action this weekend as they visit crosstown rival Saint Joseph's on Sunday afternoon at 1 PM at Sweeney Field.
