PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle women's swimming & diving team is set to open up its season on Saturday as they welcome James Madison to Kirk Pool at 1 p.m.

Sophomore
Emma Smith returns after earning two medals at the Atlantic 10 Championships last season. She won the 1,650-yard freestyle race thanks to a time of 16:39.78 to win the event by 3.33 seconds over the nearest competitor. She also finished second in the 500-yard freestyle finals where she swam a 4:50.92 to finish second, missing out on another gold by only .56 seconds.

Smith, a Nepean, Ontario native, two new Atlantic 10 and La Salle records last season thanks to a 1:49.73 time in the 200 free and a 4:50.92 time in the 500 free.

The Explorers also return senior
Kelsey Jenkinson who reached the finals in the 200-yard breastroke at the Atlantic 10 Championships last year. Jenkinson swam a 2:17.01 to finish seventh in the finals.

On the boards La Salle brings back sophomore
Sydney Szopo who in the 3-meter dive finals racked up 256.45 points to finish in sixth place.

La Salle welcomes a group of six talented freshman looking to help the Explorers reach the podium at this year's A-10 Championship which will be held between February 17 and 20 at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

The Explorers return to the pool Wednesday October 21 as they welcome Philadelphia foe Villanova to the pool with the action getting underway at 6 p.m. Â
