Gimpel Qualifies for NCAA Zones in Dual Meet with George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va.- La Salle men's swimming and diving senior CJ Gimpel qualified for the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships and won both of the diving events as the Explorers fell 134-107 at George Mason on Friday evening.
 
Gimpel won the one meter event with a score of 315.60 to qualify for the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships a week after his teammate sophomore Dylan Yurasits qualified for the same event. Yurasits was in second place with a score of 313.65 on the night.
 
Yurasits finished atop the three meter diving event thanks to a score of 299.85 on the night. Gimpel was close behind with a 288.98 while junior Chase Ott rounded out the top three with a 278.03 score.
 
Sophomore Jakub Bartosiewicz won the 200 yard butterfly event thanks to a time of 1:52.49 which was 1.17 seconds clear of the second place swimmer. Bartosiewicz also finished in third place during the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.96, just 1.06 seconds off the winner. Freshman Aleksandar Nikolic was fourth in the race with a time of 1:44.66.
 
Senior Johan Roth took home the top time in the 200 yard breaststroke thanks to a time of 2:06.86, nearly two seconds clear of the second place finisher. Sophomore Dimitri Mladenovic was third in 2:10.48.
 
Sophomore Fabian Bergman used a time of 1:51.26 to take the top spot in the 200 yard backstroke by 2.57 seconds. Junior Jerry Gravel finished in third place with a time of 1:55.79. Bergman finished in third place in the 200 yard IM with a time of 1:55.56, less than a second off the first place finisher.
 
Junior Mattias Glenesk earned two second place finishes on the day. First in the 1000 yard free he swam a 9:36.78 to just miss out on the top spot by .57 seconds. Later in 500 yard freestyle he turned in a time of 4:41.60 to again just get out touched by .08 seconds.  
 
The men's 400 yard medley relay team used a time of 3:24.54 to win the event. The team of Bergman, Roth, Bartosiewicz and Nikolic had a margin of 3.2 seconds over the second place team.
 
La Salle returns to the pool next weekend as they head to Buknell for the Bucknell Invitational beginning next Friday.
