La Salle Set for Miami Thanksgiving Classic

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The La Salle women's basketball team is set for the Miami Thanksgiving Classic this weekend in Coral Gables, Fla. The Explorers will tipoff against the Milwaukee Panthers at 1 PM on Saturday and the Miami Hurricanes on Sunday at 1 PM.

All-Time Series vs. Milwaukee
La Salle is 3-1 all-time against Milwaukee in a series that dates back to 1995. After the Explorers took the first three meetings, the Panthers earned a 77-61 victory on New Year's Eve in 2007.

This is the first-ever meeting between La Salle and the University of Miami.

Scouting the Explorers
The Explorers fell in a tightly contested game to ACC-foe Wake Forest on Wednesday afternoon. La Salle jumped out to an early lead and had the advantage until midway through the 2nd quarter. The Explorers were within two points well into the 4th quarter but couldn't overtake the Demon Deacons. 

Sophomore Amy Griffin leads La Salle with 13.3 points per game after averaging 7.8 ppg as a freshman last season. Griffin adds 5.8 rebounds per game and tallied a career-high five steals against Wake Forest.

Micahya Owens isn't far behind with 12.5 points per game, and adds 3.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.

Freshman Adreana Miller has made an immediate impact with 11.0 ppg through her first four collegiate games, including 13 points off the bench against Wake Forest.

Jasmine Alston, a 5'9" guard, has led the team in rebounds twice this season, and is tied for 9th in the A-10 with 7.5 rebounds per game. The junior also leads the team with 4.3 assists per game this season, which is tied for fifth in the A-10.

Alston, who led the league with 2.3 steals per game last season on the way to All-Defensive honors, is fifth in the league with 2.5 thefts per game in 2015.

Ashanti Freeland had career-highs in rebounds (10) and blocks (5) against the Demon Deacons in her third start of the season. 

Scouting the Panthers
The Panthers are looking to bounce back from a 77-38 loss to the Miami Hurricanes in the opening game of the Miami Thanksgiving Classic. 

Jenny Linder leads the Panthers in scoring with 15.0 points per game, and had a team-high 12 points against Miami on Friday. 

Sophomore Steph Kostowicz had seven points and a season-high 13 rebounds in the loss to Miami after posting her third career double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds against FAU on Tuesday. 

The Panthers entered play Friday leading the Horizon League with an 80 percent clip from the free throw line, sinking 28-of-35 in their first two games.

Scouting the Hurricanes
Miami is coming off a 77-38 drubbing of the Milwaukee Panthers in the opening game of the Miami Thanksgiving Classic on Friday afternoon. The Hurricanes controlled the game from the outset, including outscoring the Panthers 26-4 in the 4th quarter.

Miami is now 6-0 to start the season for the third time in program history. The Canes also started 6-0 in 2003-04 and 2009-10.

Junior guard Adrienne Motley has scored over 15 points in four straight games and is leading the Hurricanes in scoring with 16.3 points per game.  Motley had 17 points, including 13 in the second half, in the win over Milwaukee. 

Miami's Jessica Thomas finished with nine points and a season-high six assists while committing zero turnovers on Friday. The junior guard also led all players with four steals, doubling her previous season high.
