PHILADELPHIA - #13/16 Miami proved to be too much to handle for La Salle in a 95-49 victory for the Hurricanes on Tuesday night at the Palestra. Sophomore
Johnnie Shuler had nine points and five asssists to lead the Explorers.
Classmate
Tony Washington had eight points and 10 boards, while graduate student
Rohan Brown and sophomore
Yevgen Sakhniuk each had eight.
Miami (10-1) was led by Ivan Cruz Uceda's 20 points. Sheldon McClellan had 14 points and six assists, while Philadelphia product Ja'Quan Newton added 10.
The game was tight in the early going. Sakhniuk's layup with 13:59 left in the first half cut the Miami lead to 8-7. But a 14-4 run over the next three minutes provided separation and Miami never looked back.
La Salle (4-5) returns to the court on December 31 at Florida Gulf Coast at 1:30 PM. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.Â
