RICHMOND, Va. -
Siobhan Beslow drained a team-high 13 points, including 11 in the first half, but the La Salle women's basketball team dropped a 72-60 decision to Richmond at the Robins Center on Saturday afternoon.
Beslow, who owns one of the league's top field goal percentages, did not disappoint as she went 6-for-10 from the field.
Alicia Cropper added 12 for the Explorers (12-13, 3-9 Atlantic 10).
Jasmine Alston chipped in eight points, and team-highs in rebounds (7) and assists (5).Â
The Explorers had no answer for Richmond senior Genevieve Okoro, who exploded for 27 points and 15 rebounds. Okoro was unstoppable at the free throw line, nailing 19 of her 22 attempts. Lauren Tolson added 17 points and Janelle Hubbard chipped in 12 off the bench for the Spiders (16-9, 8-4 Atlantic 10).
The Spiders were without the services of Olivia Healy (10.3 ppg) whose season ended early with an injury on Wednesday.
Richmond jumped out to a 37-29 halftime lead. The Explorers got within seven on a few occasions in the second half, but could not get over the seven-point hump.
The Explorers shot 40.6 percent overall, but went 0-for-7 from three-point range. They limited the Spiders to 38.9 percent from the floor, but the home squad put in 6-of-16 from long range. The discrepancy was even more pronounced at the charity stripe, with Richmond going 24-for-28. The Explorers had just five attempts, sinking four of those.
Richmond dominated the boards, 44-33.
The Explorers were once again on the good end of the turnover battle, committing just 10 while forcing the Spiders into 15.Â
The Explorers return to action on Thursday when they host Rhode Island at 7 p.m. at Tom Gola Arena.Â
