Griffin Ties Career High in Loss at Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio - Dayton jumped out to a 17-4 lead and never looked back as La Salle dropped a 91-49 decision to the Flyers at UD Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Amy Griffin tied for game-high honors with a career-high-tying 20 points, 16 of which came in the second half. She added four boards and two assists, and went a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line. Siobhan Beslow chipped in six points on 3-for-5 shooting.

Four Flyers (21-5, 12-2 Atlantic 10) reached double figures, led by Ally Malott's 20 points. Malott scored her 20 on 8-for-13 shooting and pulled down a game-high-tying nine rebounds. Amber Deane added 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Andrea Hoover and Andrijana Cvitkovic chipped in 11 each.

The Explorers (13-14, 4-10 Atlantic 10) struggled offensively from the outset, converting just two field goals in the first eight minutes of the game as the Flyers built the 17-4 lead. La Salle finished with a 26.2 percent clip from the field for the game, and went 2-for-9 from long range. The Explorers did well at the free throw line, going 13-for-16 behind Griffin's 6-for-6 effort.

There was no answer for the high-scoring Flyers, who shot a blistering 57.4 percent on the day. They did it down low and on the perimeter, outscoring the Explorers 36-14 in the paint while also hitting 10 three-pointers on the day. Their one weak spot was an uncharacteristic 11-for-18 showing at the free throw line.

Dayton dominated the boards, 49-28, and also dished out 24 assists on 35 field goals.

La Salle continues its final regular season road swing on Wednesday when the Explorers visit St. Bonaventure at 7 p.m.
