Men's Swimming and Diving | February 23, 2015

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle mens' swimming and diving had a solid showing at the Atlantic 10 Championships last week at the Spire Institute, finishing the four-day event in 4th place with 449.5 team points. Overall, five school records fell and another was tied.

Junior Johan Roth won gold and set the new Atlantic 10 conference and meet record in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking a 1:57.12 to best a 14-year old record held by Massachusett's Billy Brown (1:58.66). Roth, who had set the standing school record (1:58.83) during the morning preliminary, recorded an NCAA B Cut with the effort.

The Western Cape, South Africa native earned bronze and broke his own school record by swimming a 54.96 in the final of the 100-yard breaststroke, which was also good for an NCAA B Cut.  Roth also recorded a B Cut time (1:49.90) to finish 5th in the 200-yard IM.

Cameron Fadley was another top performer, earning silver medals and setting the school records in the 100-yard butterfly and tying the mark for the 200-yard IM. The sophomore won the silver in the 100-yard fly by clocking a 47.92, breaking his own school record and securing an NCAA B Cut. Fadley earned the silver in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:49.23, tying Ron Karnaugh's school record from 1986.

The Blue and Gold's 400-yard medley relay team of Fabian Bergman, Roth, Fadley and Justin Hughes clocked a 3:16.29 to win silver and break the record set earlier this year by Bergman, Roth, Jakub Bartosiewicz and Hughes (3:18.09).

Mattias Glenesk finished 2nd and set a new school record in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:15.17, which was also good for an NCAA B Cut. The sophomore topped his own school record of 15:20.48, which he set at last year's A-10 Championships.

On Thursday, diver CJ Gimpel scored 269.60 on the 1-meter dive to earn a share of the silver with Massachusetts' Robert Barry.

Dimitrije Mladenovic joined Roth on the podium for the 200-yard breaststroke after earning the bronze with a time of 1:59.96.
