Lacrosse Drops Tough Contest To Delaware

PHILADELPHIA - Allee Ilgenfritz recorded a hat trick in the first half, but the La Salle lacrosse team dropped a 24-6 decision to Delaware on Wednesday evening at McCarthy Stadium..

The Explorers (1-2) struggled against Delaware's high-powered offense, which posted its second 20+ goal game in four contests. Caitlin McCartney led the attack with seven goals and Jamie Schwartz added four goals and one assist to lead the Blue Hens (3-1).

In addition to Ilgenfritz's three goals, Kelly Furman, Katie Fonte and Brittany Edwards added one each.

The Blue Hens jumped out to a 5-1 lead and never let up as they took a 13-5 halftime lead. The Delaware defense was even more stingy in the second half, holding the Explorers to just one goal as the Blue Hen offense scored the final eight goals of the game.

Delaware owned a 40-12 shot advantage and 21-10 draw control advantage.

Gabby Antonelli took the loss in goal, making seven saves. Rookie Lucy Loughlin saw her first collegiate action in goal, recording three stops. Alex Zaugra needed just two saves to pick up the win for Delaware.

The Explorers head on the road to Jacksonville, Fla., over spring break. They face JU on Wednesday (3/4) at 4 p.m. on ESPN3, and remain in Jacksonville for a neutral site contest against Kennesaw State next Saturday (3/7).
