PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle lacrosse squad outscored Drexel in the second half, but came up just short in a 12-10 loss to the Dragons on Wednesday night at Vidas Field in the nonconference finale for both squads.
Katelyn Fay led the Explorers (4-4) with three goals.
Caitlyn Brostrand,
Erin McCabe and
Allee Ilgenfritz scored two each, and
Claire Andrews chipped in one goal.
Drexel duo Joelle Hartke and Milan White scored three apiece, and Lacey Aghazarian added two. Four other Dragons (3-7) found the back of the net.Â
The Explorers took a 3-2 lead midway through the first half before Drexel rattled off five straight to close out the first half with a 7-3 advantage. They came out of the break and added a sixth straight to take an 8-3 lead, their largest of the game, before the Explorers started chipping away. The teams traded goals until the Explorers drained five of the game's final seven scores. Fay scored all three of her goals in the last 16:24 of play.
The Explorers owned a 28-21 shot advantage. The Dragons picked up 15 ground balls to the Explorers' 10, and Drexel edged the Blue & Gold on the draw controls, 12-11.
Gabby Antonelli made seven saves in goal, and Drexel goalie Teresha Bradley earned the win while recording eight saves.
The Explorers open Atlantic 10 play on Sunday, when they host George Washington at 3 p.m.
