ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The La Salle baseball team clubbed a season-high 21 hits and scored ten runs over the final three innings en route to a 14-3 victory and series win over UNC Asheville on Sunday at Greenwood Field.
Leading the Bulldogs 4-3 through six innings, the Explorers started the late scoring output with a five-run 7
th inning. After a passed ball brought in
Josh Savakinus,
Ryan Welling delivered a two-run single through the left side.
Ethan Springston capped the inning with a two-run single through the right side. Springston finished 4-for-6 with five RBI's after a two-run single in the 2
nd and an RBI triple in the 4
th.
Justin Korenblatt hit his second homer of the day to lead off the 8
th before
Mark Williams followed with a solo shot of his own two batters later. Korenblatt was 3-for-4 with four runs scored and a pair of runs driven in.
The Explorers added three in the 9
th thanks to an RBI singles from Williams, Welling and
Michael Flax. Welling finished 5-for-6 with three RBI's to cap a 10-hit, nine RBI weekend.
Jordan Meyer tossed 2.1 perfect innings in relief to earn his first win of the season.
Greg Paprocki and
Adam Cherry combined for three scoreless innings to finish the game.
The Explorers will host Villanova on Tuesday for their first home game of the 2015 season. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
