Lacrosse Edged at Duquesne, 10-8

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Duquesne closed out the first half with three straight goals to take the lead for good as La Salle fell 10-8 to the Dukes on Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh.

Caitlyn Brostrand led the Explorer (6-6, 2-2 Atlantic 10) effort with four goals and an assist. The senior tallied nine goals this weekend with five at St. Bonaventure on Friday and four today.

Katelyn Fay added a hat trick with three goals and an assist, and Allee Ilgenfritz rounded out the Explorer scoring with one goal.

Clare Hurley led the Dukes (7-6, 3-1 Atlantic 10) with three goals and Kaelin Shaw added two. Five other Dukes scored a goal apiece.

The Dukes jumped out to a 4-0 lead through the first eight minutes of play behind two Hurley goals and one score each from Tess Drotar and Jill Vacanti.

Ilgenfritz sparked a three-goal rally with the Explorers' first goal at the 19:43 mark of the first half. Brostrand scored her first just over a minute later, and then found Fay for a goal just 25 seconds later to cut the deficit to 4-3.

The Dukes got one back at 16:30, but Brostrand knotted the game at 5-5 with goals at 10:55 and 9:52.

After five minutes of scoreless play, the Dukes went on a three-goal run to conclude the first half with an 8-5 lead.

The Explorers drew within 8-7 with a Brostrand goal at 24:24 and another Fay goal at 17:33. Scoring was incredibly difficult to come by in the second half, however, as both defenses clamped down. The two squads went for over 12 minutes without a goal before Duquesne's Kaitlyn DeHaven broke up the streak with a goal with 5:26 remaining for a 9-7 Dukes lead.

Fay drained her third with 4:07 left to once again make it a one-goal game. Hurley iced the game with a woman-up goal with 1:54 left for the final 10-8 score.

The two squads played fairly even ball with the Explorers owning a 21-19 edge on shot attempts and a 10-9 edge on draw controls. The Dukes picked up 12 ground balls to the Explorers' eight.

Gabby Antonelli recorded four saves in 46 minutes of play. Lucy Loughlin saw just shy of 14 minutes of action, recording one save in that span. Duquesne's Jenna Bishop picked up the win in goal with six saves in the effort.

The Explorers return home on Friday as they host Davidson at 7 p.m.
