PHILADELPHIA- For the second straight day the La Salle softball team split a doubleheader dropping the first game 1-4, before grabbing the tail end 10-2 over Drexel.
The Explorers knocked eight hits and took advantage of six walks to score the ten runs in the second game with six different players recording RBIs and six players scoring runs.
Sophomore
Suzanne Swanicke went 2-3 with a run scored and a pair of RBIs which proved to be the game ending runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
La Salle (11-11, 7-2 A-10) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Senior
Linnette Siedler got the scoring started as she hit a bases loaded single up the middle to bring home sophomore
Mackenzie Obert. Next, sophomore
Christina Bascara was hit by a pitch bringing home senior
Kristin Travers. Sophomore Hagarty scored on a passed ball before senior
Alicia Aughton singled to right center to bring home Bascara and Siedler. Freshman
Taylor Rohrbaugh brought home the final run of the inning when she walked with the bases packed to bring home junior
Alli Waddington.
Drexel was able to get one back in the top of the fourth as Gabriela Kuroda singled up the middle to bring home Sharon Zamora to make things 6-1.
However, the Explorers answered right back scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. Junior
Erica Reis drew a bases loaded walk to bring home Swanicke before Obert reached on a fielder's choice bringing home Aughton to make it 8-1 La Salle.
After the Dragons scored a run in the top of the sixth to cut things to 8-2 La Salle scored two runs to give them the six inning victory in the bottom half of the inning. Swanicke singled to left field bringing home Siedler and Hagarty to give La Salle the 10-2 win.
Freshman
McKenzie Peace earned the win throwing 5.1 innings allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out three. Junior
Mary Cate Scott recorded the final two outs of the game.
Game one saw Drexel jump out to a 4-0 lead thanks to a pair of runs in the first and second inning and the Explorers couldn't quite cut into the lead.
La Salle scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut things to 4-1 when sophomore
Lindsey Gaines recorded her first career hit with a solo homer to right field. However, that wasn't enough as La Salle ultimately dropped the top half of the doubleheader.
The Explorers were able to record seven hits but left seven runners stranded in the loss. Scott threw 5.2 innings in relief allowing no runs while striking out two batters.
La Salle returns to action on Saturday as they head to Saint Louis to kick off a three game series with a noon doubleheader.
