Track Heads to Princeton for Larry Ellis Invite

PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle track and field team travels to Princeton to participate in the Larry Ellis Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
 
The Explorers will enter 29 athletes in 15 events over the two days of the Invitational. More than 1,700 athletes will be at Princeton for the Invitational with 75 different colleges represented and 28 track clubs also making entries.
 
On day one of the invitational La Salle will participate in seven different events.
 
Senior Michael Santeramo will kick things off for the Explorers with the Javelin Throw beginning at 2 p.m. The field for the men's Javelin Throw is 24 men. The senior is coming off a fourth place finish at the Rider Invitational thanks to a toss of 50.19m.
 
Next on the slate is the men's elite 800 meter run which La Salle will place five different entries in the 108 man field. Sophomores Cris Hunter and Chris Sanders, freshmen Collin Pierlott and Nicholas Smart and junior Chris Trimble will represent the Explorers. Sanders who is coming off two straight weeks as A-10 Performer of the Week holds the best time of the group at 1:50.88 which he ran at the Colonial Relays and is the fastest in the conference this season. Trimble and Smart also rank in the top 25 times in conference this season as Trimble ran a 1:55.18 good for 14th place in the league and Smart timed at 1:55.47 both at the Mason Spring Invitational.
 
Two Explorers are entered in the 3000m Steeplechase as sophomore David Ozarowski and senior Ben Pershall enter the field of 48. Ozarowski has the second fastest time in conference this year with a 9:23.87 run at the Colonial Relays good for fourth place. Pershall checks in with the ninth fastest time in the Atlantic 10 thanks to a 9:45.73 at the Rider Invitational.
 
Six Explorers will enter the 1,500m Elite Men's race on Friday evening as part of the 103 man field. Juniors Chris Trimble and Tim Flanagan join sophomore Stephen Lewandowski, seniors Vince Perozze and Nick Ross and freshman Nick Smart in the field. Ross, Perozze and Lewandowski all own top 10 Atlantic 10 times this spring with Ross checking in at third on the list thanks to a 3:49.88 time at the Mason Spring Invitational.
 
Two La Salle women are entered in the field of 74 for the 1,500 Elite women's race. Freshman Morgan Szekely and senior Taylor Hackett will represent the Explorers. Szekely has won the A-10 Rookie of the Week the past two weeks and owns the fastest A-10 time of the season in the 1500m with a 4:23.63 run at the Mason Spring Invitational.
 
A pair of freshmen and a junior are part of the 101 man field on Friday evening for the 5000m run. Freshmen Chris Berry and Bradley Heuer are joined by junior Ian Barnhill in the event. Heuer owns the fourth best time in the conference this spring thanks to a 14:33.25 run at the Philadelphia College Classic. Barnhill is right behind having run a 14:49.20 at the Colonial Relays for eighth overall in the conference.
 
Freshman Megan Connell and junior Molly Mickle are part of the 84 women field for the 5000m run Friday night. Both own top 10 times in the Atlantic 10 so far this season with Connell having run a 17:21.06 at the Colonial Relays and Mickle running a 17:43.25 at the race. That ranks sixth and eighth respectively in the league so far this year.
 
Day two of the Invitational will see La Salle compete in five races as well as a pair of field events.
 
Freshman Kenneth Worthington will compete in both the high jump and long jump fields. He will be joined in the long jump by his classmate Jordan Bryan. Worthington and Bryan own the fifth and fourth best distances in the long jump respectively so far this spring in the conference with Bryan leaping 22'11.75'' at the Rider Invitational and Worthington measuring 22'8'' invite.
 
Sophomore Amber Jackson will compete in the 25 women field for the long jump. Jackson owns the 10th best jump this spring in the Atlantic 10 thanks to a 5.33 meter leap at the Rider Invitational.
 
On the track day two will being with the 1500m run for the men. Sophomores Nick LeFavor and John Pujols are entered in the event. This will be the first time running the distance for Pujols since last season having run mainly the 3000 meter steeplechase so far this spring. LeFavor is coming off a 15:11.85 time in the 5000m at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
 
Freshman Justin Guerre and Matthew Knoll are entered in the 58 man 100 meter dash on Saturday afternoon. Guerre owns the third fastest time in the conference this spring thanks to a 10.90 run at the Colonial Relays. Guerre will also compete in the 59 man 200 meter dash later in the day. His fastest time in that was a 22.01 run at the Philadelphia College Classic which is good for fourth overall in the Atlantic 10.
 
A pair of underclassmen are entered in the 400 meter hurdles field of 33. Sophomore Nick Della Vecchia and freshman Michael Hagan will represent La Salle. Della Vecchia has the faster time this season of the two with a 58.84 run at the Rider Invite while Hagan is close behind with a 1:01.78 from the Colonial Relays.
 
The final race of the day the Explorers are represented in is the 3000 meter run with freshman Michelle Myland running for La Salle. Myland ran a 10:26.51 in the distance at the Stony Brook Spring Opener finishing in sixth place.

La Salle returns to action as several athletes will compete at the Penn Relays which has been run annually since 1895 while the rest of the team will head to Lehigh for the Lehigh Games on Saturday April 25th.
