PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle Explorers defeated Delaware State 13-4 on Tuesday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field for their third straight victory.
The Blue and Gold collected 19 hits on the afternoon, paced by four hits from
Cameron Johnson and three from
Michael Flax. The pair also combined for five RBI's and four runs scored.
After Delaware State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1
st against La Salle starter
Jordan Meyer (W, 2-3),
Joey Ravert responded with a three-run homer to right to put La Salle in front 3-1.
Cameron Johnson followed suit with a three-run shot in the 4
th to make it 6-1.
Meyer struck out six in five innings of work, yielding just two hits and two walks. Delaware State starter Travis Dill (L, 0-2) lasted three innings before turning it over to the Hornets bullpen.
Travis George added a solo shot in the 5
th to push the lead to 7-1 before DSU's Jaylen Zielecki tallied an RBI single in the 6
th to cut the La Salle lead back to five.
The Explorers posted three-run frames in the 6
th and 7
th to push the game out of contention. Flax drove in a run in both innings, getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the 6
th before singling in a run in the 7
th.
The Explorers are back in action Wednesday afternoon at Villanova at 3:15 p.m.
