KINGSTON, R.I.- The La Salle baseball team fell to the Rhode Island Rams 11-4 in the season finale on Saturday afternoon at Bill Beck Field.
Ethan Springston knocked a two-run homer in the 5
th and
Cameron Johnson followed with a two-run shot in the 6
th to account for La Salle's four runs. Johnson finished 2-for-4 while
Ryan Welling and
Josh Savakinus each collected hits in their final games as Explorers.
A scoreless game until the bottom of the 4
th, the Rams got to La Salle starter
Tom Fazzini (L, 1-3) for three runs in the 4
th as part of a seven-run frame for Rhody.
Righty
Billy Worswick recorded only one out in relief of Fazzini in the 4
th while surrendering three runs on three hits before
Greg Krug gave up a run while recording the final out.
Welling doubled to start the 5
th and Springston cut the deficit to 7-2 with a homer to right one batter later. After URI got a run back in the 5
th to make it 8-2, Johnson homered to left following Savakinus' single to make it a four-run game.
That's as close as La Salle could get as the Rams touched up
Adam Cherry for three runs in the 8
th on the way to the 11-4 win.
