PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's basketball program is pleased to announce that two student-athletes, Syracuse transfer
B.J. Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa. / Lower Merion) and incoming freshman
Rokas Ulvydas (Kaunas, Lithuania / Mt. Zion Prep (Md.)), will join the team during the 2015-16 season.
Johnson (6-7, 185), the son of former Explorer men's basketball letter-winner Bob Johnson (1986-90), played two seasons for Syracuse. He appeared in 24 games for the Orange this past season averaging 4.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Johnson scored a career-high 19 points twice in 2014-15, including a win at then #9 Notre Dame.
"I expect B.J. to be an outstanding defender for us and a consistent scorer," head coach
Dr. John Giannini said. "With the strong work habits we know he has, B.J. should have a very positive impact on our program."
As a senior at nearby Lower Merion High School, Johnson was a top 100 recruit who earned all-state honors twice in his career. He helped lead the Aces to a 30-3 record and the 2013 PIAA Class AAAA State Championship.
Johnson will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Ulvydas (6-11, 220), originally from Kaunas, Lithuania, played at Mt. Zion Prep in Maryland this past season.
"We are thrilled to have Rokas join our program," Giannini said. "He fits everything we look for. He is a good person, a hard worker and a serious student. He has good size, athleticism, toughness and upside. I am personally excited to work with Rokas and develop him into an important player in our program."
