Women's Rowing | May 7, 2015

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle women's rowing team will wrap up its 2014-15 season this weekend when the Explorers compete in the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River.

Two women's boats will be entered into competition, including the varsity eight and varsity four.

The V4 opens competition at 8:10 a.m. in Lane 2 of Heat 1. The Explorers will face Franklin Pierce (Lane 1), Atlantic 10 foe Massachusetts (Lane 3), Cincinnati (Lane 4) and Endicott (Lane 5), with the top two advancing to Saturday's semifinals. The semis will begin at approximately 9:56 a.m. on Saturday. The V4 includes coxswain Katie Reyes, and rowers Maura McKenna (stroke), Brooke Spence (3), Savannah Fader (2) and Amanda Ryan (bow).

"A senior, three juniors and a sophomore lead the Explorers into the 2015 Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta," Head Coach Tom Madden said. "Every time they race, they get more confident in their abilities as a crew and move faster with each practice. We are looking forward to their performance this weekend."

The V8 will race in Lane 5 in Heat 5, starting around 11:29 a.m. The heat is an A-10 heavy race, also featuring Duquesne (Lane 3) and Dayton (Lane 4) in addition to Iona (Lane 1) and Delaware (Lane 2). The top two finishers advance to the semifinals, starting around 10:26 a.m. on Saturday. The third and fourth place boats head to reps later in the day on Friday, starting around 3:26 p.m. The V8 includes coxswain Emily Giegerich, and rowers Catherine Goldschmidt (stroke), Emma Merrick (7), Katie Van Stone (6), Cora Jones (5), Erika Gonzalez (4), Emily Finkbinder (3), Jackie Gonzalez (2) and Sofia Iaconelli (bow).

"Led by three seniors in the front of the boat, our women's V8 has been progressing every day over the last two weeks," Madden added. "With the support of a junior, four sophomores and a freshman, the coaches expect their best race to date."
