PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's soccer team opened its season with a scoreless draw against the Boston University Terriers on Monday night at McCarthy Stadium.
The Explorers kept BU off the board through two overtime periods, limiting the Terriers to just four shots on goal on the evening. La Salle goalkeeper
Katie Getzinger recorded four saves against 16 shots in the shutout effort.
"We were very proud of our defensive effort tonight," said head coach
Paul Royal. "I thought Kate and the rest of our backline were excellent."
The Explorers put four of their 13 shots on goal against BU keeper Alyssa Parisi, who also had four saves on the evening.
Marykate Bateman put two shots on goal while
Chrissy Vollrath and
Bria Bittiger each tallied one.
The Explorers had two shots in the first overtime, including a header from
Madison Bower that sailed wide to the left in the final minute.
Deja Davis missed wide to the right for La Salle's only shot in the second overtime.
"We knew it was going to be a NCAA Tournament type of environment with a top 30 program in BU," added Royal. "As a staff, we're pleased with having a positive result but we know we'll have to continue to grow as our upcoming schedule intensifies."
The Explorers are back in action on Thursday as they host the Seton Hall Pirates at McCarthy Stadium at 5 p.m.
